Lee Jeffries is a Manchester based photographer. He began photographing homeless people in 2008 when a homeless girl caught him taking a photo of her, which led him to strike up a conversation with her. He has taken over 100 photographs of the homeless people he has met in Europe and the United States. He chooses his subjects carefully, usually looking for something behind the eyes that conveys a person’s character or that shows their emotions. He makes an effort to get to know each of his subjects before asking their permission to take their portrait. A small reflector, held beneath the subject’s chin is the only accessory he uses as he only has a few moments to capture them. Afterwards, he artistically enhances the photographs mainly to develop the mood of their eyes. The full series of photos can be seen here.
